Guide to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage
First unveiled in February 1977, the V8 Vantage was in production from 1977 until 1989.
With 40% more power and 10% more torque than the previous V8 engines, the new Vantage engine was fitted with modified camshafts and airbox and larger inlet valves and carburettors. The same ZF gearbox, as used in the standard V8 saloon, was still in place as standard, however, a small number of cars were fitted with a Torqueflite Box instead.
Capable of a top speed of 170 mph and 0 to 60 mph in just 5.3 seconds, the V8 Vantage was the fastest accelerating production car in the world at the time.
To complement the engine performance, modifications were made to improve the aerodynamic s of the cars. A spoiler was added to the boot, a deep spoiler was added under the nose, the radiator was blanked off and an air scoop was added to the bonnet. In most other areas the car was of the same design and specification to the Series 3 V8 Saloon.
In 1986 modifications were made to the bodywork and larger wheels were added. This version of the V8 Vantage was released at the NEC Show in October of that year.
When first on sale in 1977, a new V8 Vantage cost £20,000 increasing to £75,000 by 1987.
