Goodwood Motor Racing http://www.postvintage.co.uk/eventsgoodwood-motor-racing/

The Goodwood Motor Circuit first opened in September 1948 and has since seen a long history of motor racing. It was opened after the war to a public which had been deprived of any permanent motor racing venue since 1939 when Brooklands had closed due to the outbreak of World War II.

Although this was the first permanent circuit that Goodwood had, it was, however, not the first racing that it had seen. In 1936 the first hill climb meeting was held for a small, select group; and has now become synonymous with Goodwood still being seen today, albeit on a larger scale, at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The largest of the Goodwood events is the Goodwood Revival. This commenced in 1998 exactly 50 years to the day from the first professionally organised post War motor racing event to take place in England. It is based around the same circuit as the original, which ceased holding its motor racing events in 1966, and has been restored to its former glory in every detail.

Today the Goodwood Revival is the most popular historic race meeting in the world and is the only event to submerge all who take part in the history of motor racing. Every last detail is true to the era of the last races, held in the 1950s and 1960s, with no cars produced after 1966 being permitted to enter and all of the competitors, staff and even some spectators dressing in period fashion.

The other famous Motor Sport Event to be held is the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This event started in 1993 and celebrates motoring culture. Held annually in the grounds of Goodwood it sees a meeting of some of the most magnificent vehicles and famous drivers in the World, being heavily supported by many of the Formula 1 teams and Le Mans winners.

The 2009 dates are as follows, further details and ticket information can be found at www.goodwood.co.uk

Le Mans 2009 http://www.postvintage.co.uk/eventsle-mans-2009/

The world’s oldest sports car race, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is held annually over the second weekend in June. The event started in 1923 and is an endurance race designed to test not only the speed of the car and the driver, but also their ability to drive over a 24 hour period.

This year sees the 77th race with events commencing with scrutineering and practice sessions on Wednesday 10th June. Alongside the official 24 hour race, the Le Mans event also hosts several other races, Formula Le Mans Cup and Le Mans Legend.  It is a very special year for Aston Martin as it marks the 50th Anniversary of their first win in the event.

The itinerary for the event has been released as followed:

10th June – practice sessions for Formula Le Mans Cup and the 24 Hours of Le Mans

11th June – qualifying practice sessions for Le Mans Legend, Formula Le Mans Cup and 24 Hours of Le Mans

12th June – Driver’s parade

13th June –Warm up for 24 Hours of Le Mans, Race of Le Mans Legend, start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

14th June – Finish of the 24 Hours of Le Mans
