Mille Miglia 2009

Mille Miglia 2009

From the 13th to the 17th May, 2009, the Mille Miglia will take place in Italy. It is the most prestigious road race in the racing calendar and was declared “the world’s greatest” by Enzo Ferrari.

Now in its 80th year, the Mille Miglia, sees the cars race in a circuit from Brescia, taking in Ferrara, Sansepolcro, Rome and Monteriggioni along the way.

The event is an intense affair, with the drivers racing through the night to reach their destinations and is still based upon the original route which the cars took in the races between 1927 and 1957. In 2009, for the first time, the race will also detour through several destinations connected to the Battle of Solferino, to mark its 150th anniversary and importance in Italian history.

This year is also a very special race for Post Vintage as Adrian Johnson will be amongst the competitors for the first time. Although it will be his first Mille Miglia, Adrian will be in safe hands, as he is partnering Terry Bramall, who has driven in the race previously, in 2008. The duo will also be supported by Post Vintage Workshop Manager, Trevor Hill.

They will be competing in a rare Jaguar C Type.  Jaguar only built 52 C Type cars between 1951 and 1953. They are based upon the XK120 with a modified engine and lighter body to optimise speed. The C Type has competed in many famous races over the years, coming first at the Le Mans 24 Hours in its first attempt in 1951.

Hopefully its success will be with Adrian and Terry at the Mille Miglia and we wish them the very best of luck.
