Post Vintage at Pebble Beach 2010
Post Vintage Managing Director, Adrian Johnson, is attending this year’s Pebble Beach events in Monterey, California in association with Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust. Jaguar are supporting the event as part of their 75 Anniversary Celebrations.
Adrian is attending with one of the remaining Jaguar XKSS. Only 16 XKSS were ever produced and the Heritage Trust have managed to assemble 12 of these to mark this special landmark in Jaguar history. These magnificent cars are to be displayed at various locations during the week’s events, climaxing with The Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
The XKSS was a road version of the Jaguar D Type. Fitted with a passenger seat, an extra door and a full width windscreen to make the cars safer and more comfortable or road use, the tradmark fin fitted behind the driver’s seat on the D Type was also omitted and the car was fitted with a basic hood. Whilst designed for road use, a high performance engine was still fitted to the cars and was capable of top speeds of 149 mph.
The Pebble Beach event runs from Wednesday 11 August until Sunday 15 August and is a highlight of the motoring calendar. Events include auctions by RM Auctions and Gooding and Co, rallies, exhibitions and of course the Concours d’Elegance which is held at the Pebble Beach Lodge.
As part of the Jaguar Anniversary Celebrations, a special rally will be held on Thursday 12 August, which will see all of the XKSS’s travel around Pebble Beach from Casa Palmero to Laguna Seca, with a stop at Carmel Mission en route.
It looks set to be another truly breathtaking event with some of the world’s most desirable cars on display and appearing at auction over the course of the week.
